Shouldn’t Exwire be “ESQUIRE”?

Just saying…because Exwire doesn’t seem to have any meaning when compared to Knight, Paladins and Dragoons XD

hey Queenofmuffins…how long does it normally take to translate a chapter?

Uh~ a while, I guess. I work for 4 groups, so I have other projects which tend to take up my time and get a bit more priority, being weeklies (Psyren, ect)…
Plus, a chapter of ANE is on average about 40+ pages, and usually has pretty difficult language (summoning stuff, demonology, ect) so it can takes ages for me to translate. Not to mention Bon speaks in Kansai ben! >.<"
In other words, I get it done, but please… be patient! I'm going as fast as I can. ^^;

I know you're most likely right. The kanji is read as "cadet", but the katakana is written as "Ekkusuwaiya"… I tried so many ways of translating it, and since 'waiya' is pretty much always 'wire', I went with Exwire. I didn't even think of Esquire! Then Cnet translated the chapter and used Exwire, so I figured he must've drawn the same conclusion.
It's pretty much stayed Exwire for consistency sake, so try not to mind it too much. ^^
Keep up the good work, I greatly appreciated.
Also you should do chapter 9 quickly or else……Chapter 10 will be out and you’d be 2 chapters behind again.

so I always have it on hand in my HD) but on Chap. 5, also done my JAC with QueenofMufffins as translator on Page 5 you wrote Yukio saying: “Since it’s purpose is to provide combat training rather than just to make you (“an” w/c is missing ) Esquire, the Exam won’t be that easy.”
So you already indeed used Esquire before XD
and using ExWire now is…just odd because ExWire has no meaning.

Holy shit, you’re right. I never noticed that before. So Queenofmuffins translated it right the first time, then changed it to Exwire later on.

Yep, it’d say Esquire in that chapter because that was the first chapter it popped up in, and I originally translated it as Exwire. The chapter was released, then someone posted a comment pretty much saying what you did, so I edited my trans to Esquire. Since the chapter wasn’t re-done to fix it, to keep with consistency, I stuck with Exwire. ^^

Although it might not make as much sense as Esquire, I actually think ‘Exwire’ is correct. I’ll explain why. ^^

Here’s my dialogue from Chapter 5.
My translation.
Rin: ExWiyah?
Shiemi: It’s ExWire!
Rin: And that is!?
Addmittedly not the best, but it was the closet I could come up with. XD
The Japanese RAW said:
Rin: エスクワイヤ？ (Esukuwaiya?)
Shiemi: エクスワイアだよ。 (Ekusuwaiya dayo.)
Rin: エスクワイア!? (Esukuwaia!?)
Basically, Rin mishears Yukio, and says “Esukuwaiya”. I didn’t know it at the time, but this is the Japanese version of ‘Esquire’. (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%A8%E3%82%B9%E3%82%AF%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%82%A2)
I just thought it was Rin messing up “Exwire”, which is why I wrote it as “Exwiyah.” (as that is how we’d mess up the word in English.)
Shiemi tries to tell him what it is, by saying “It’s Exwire!” which Rin sorta mis-hears again, and ends up combining the two. There wasn’t really a way I could put it in English, so I just wrote “And that is?!” to convey he still doesn’t understand the term.
So as you can see, although I agree that Esquire would make a hell of a lot more sense, it seems the Manga-ka would like the term Exwire used… or something similar to that! ^^
The good thing about Japanese is that, how you see it is how you pronounce it. And in this case where the katakana clearly shows that it is pronounced ‘exwire’, there really is no need to dwell on the matter. Thanks for the final clarification muffin-chan. ^_^
